garden landscaping

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Garden landscaping is one of the fastest growing industries worldwide. Successful garden landscaping is not just about selecting plants, trees and shrubs; it’s about creating a garden landscape that is as practical as it is beautiful. A garden landscape is a living and growing space that changes from season to season. What’s more, garden landscaping involves continual nurturing and maintenance. This must all be considered when designing a garden landscape for long-term success and enjoyment.

Garden landscaping projects are costly and there are many variables to consider. This is why home and business owners alike are employing licensed garden designers to plan and execute their garden landscaping projects. If you want to become a professional Garden Designer, this HNC course will fully prepare you for a career in the garden landscaping industry.  You’ll learn in-depth how to plan, design and maintain the garden landscape. You’ll fully explore all the garden landscaping components. This includes all types of plants, hard landscaping, structures, features & furnishings. You’ll also investigate how they work together to create a coherent garden landscape. In doing so, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of the elements of style and design. This will enable you to successfully deconstruct and reconstruct any garden landscaping style or design at will. Of course, you’ll also learn how to communicate your garden landscaping ideas professionally with technical drawings, concept boards and specifications.

This is an internationally recognised qualification in its right (120 UK University Credits/32 US Semester credits). This garden landscaping course also forms stage 1 of our HND course (equivalent to Foundation/Associate degree). You can progress even further if you want – right up to BA Degree level. What’s more you can start this garden landscaping course today with no previous experience or qualifications.

TOPIC

  • A successful design is more than the sum of its parts. Conversely however, the whole is nothing without the right parts – for it is only a creative combination of the right components that produces the harmony in design so crucial for the whole. Creating a successful garden design is like any work of art, and in order to achieve a balanced composition, each element of the design must be assessed as to how it works with the other components. In this module you will explore what it is that defines style, and how to classify various details of garden design according to style. Good design is certainly intuitive, but if you wish to work as a landscape and garden designer it is essential that you understand exactly which components make a successful or unsuccessful garden design, and on successful completion of this module you will be able to re-construct any style effectively regardless of your own personal tastes and preferences.
  • A garden is a living, breathing space and its characteristics will usually change with the seasons. However, there should always be a clear underlying style in the background that holds every- thing together in visual harmony. If you want to be a successful Garden Designer you must be able to achieve this competently and with a variety of garden styles, even if they are not all to your personal tastes. In this section of the course you will learn how to deconstruct and reconstruct any style and you will “train your eye” so that can recreate and adapt the essence of any style while still creating innovative and individual designs that reflect the tastes and ideals of your clients.

Topics covered include the following :

    • Elements & Principles of Design – The building blocks of design and how you can use them successfully

    • What makes a style? – Analysing & identifying the key components of a variety of styles

    • Style Influencers – How cultural & regional factors influence style developments

    • Categories of Style – Explore ma- jor design styles around the world

    • Eclecticism in design – Beyond style, designing for individual clients

    • Successful designs – How to achieve visual balance and harmo- ny in garden design
